God’s Calling Always Leads to Adventure

by Lacey

Early on in our process of becoming church planters, we ran into some friends one night at a ball game. We hadn’t told very many people about what we were doing yet, but that very day Seth had decided to submit his application to North American Ministries (NAM). Seth made a comment to them about changes coming for us soon and they happened to guess that we might be moving. We proceeded to tell them about our prospective journey. Before we left that night, she said to me, “This will be perfect for you because you and Seth are always up for adventure.” I hadn’t really considered myself adventurous before, but that thought stuck in my mind over the next few weeks.

A few days later as I was reading a book about church planting, I came across this quote,

God’s calling always lead to adventure. Responding to God’s voice in your life means being led to step beyond your comfort zone into the great unknown. It’s then that you are living on faith. It’s then that you must totally depend on God. It’s then that you are on the adventure. As one author writes,

‘The only way to live in this adventure– with all its danger and unpredictability and immensely high stakes– is an ongoing, intimate relationship with God. The control we so desperately crave is an illusion. Far better to give it up in exchange for God’s offer of companionship.’

Responding to the call of God to start a church is nothing if not an all-out, faith-driven endeavor. If you know for sure that God has called you to start a new church, then get ready. The greatest adventure of your life is about to begin!

Since reading this quote, God has continued to use the word adventure to show me different things through various people. It has been an ongoing theme in this process and a thought I will continue to cherish and learn from.

John 15:4 states, “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.”

My prayer is that Seth and I will remain in Christ. We need His guidance and supernatural strength now more than ever. I pray that He will prepare us daily for the adventure to which he has called us. I pray that He’s in the big picture as well as in the details. I want to seek Him now more than ever and be an instrument used for His glory and His purposes… today and always.

Welcome to the adventure!
